Working with APPS
The Appalachian Popular Programming Society (APPS) works to foster community on Appalachian State’s campus through programming. From Homecoming to Coffee House Artists to Movies on the Mall, APPS strives to create events that cater to every student on campus. We are always looking to collaborate with clubs, organizations, and departments on campus to help us broaden our programming!
If you have any questions about the policies and suggestions listed below, please contact us at apps@appstate.edu!
- APPS is only able to collaborate with registered student organizations in good standing and official Appalachian State departments on campus.
- APPS is happy to collaborate with registered religious/spiritual groups on campus. These events may not contain prayers, sermons, or collections, as they would then be considered religious services.
- Certain councils may be open to religious-themed programming but APPS does not fund or participate in religious services due to the use of student activity fees for our programming.
- The APPS Council that you are seeking to work with must vote to endorse the collaboration, otherwise it will not be able to happen.
- If your organization or department is collaborating with APPS on a ticketed event, the amount that your organization or department contributes to the event (measured as a percentage of total cost) will result in your organization or department collecting an equivalent percentage of the ticket revenue.
- Organizations and departments that do not contribute to entertainment or advertising expenses may still be represented on all publicity for the event, but will not collect any ticket revenue.
- If you are interested in working with APPS to host a charitable event, different guidelines will apply.
- Start by filling out the Collaboration Interest Form. This form should help you get started in outlining your future event. While details will shift over the course of planning your event, it's a good idea to have a vision in mind.
- After evaluating your interest form, the Vice President of External Affairs will reach out and let you know if your proposal fits the vision and schedule of the appropriate council.
- If your collaboration is approved by a Council Chairperson and the Vice President of External Affairs, you will be connected with the Council Chairperson and complete the Collaboration Agreement Form.
- Organizations and Departments whose events do not move forward will be added to our External Contact Sheet so we may reach out to them in the future with other events in the future.
- APPS aims to plan our events a semester in advance, meaning we do most of our Fall planning in the Summer and most of our Spring planning in the Fall!
- While we can certainly plan great collaborative events in a shorter time frame, the more heads-up we have, the better.
- If you contact APPS for the first time within less than six (6) weeks of your intended collaboration, the answer will likely be no due to time constraints.
- APPS is comprised of six programming councils: Appalachian Heritage, Club Shows, Main Stage, RISE., Special Events, and Spirit & Traditions.
- Each council has its own specific focus, vision, and goals. It's a good idea to have an idea of which councils best fit your vision.
- APPS is a student-led organization, meaning students are at the front of all of our outreach, planning, and programming. Students are our number one priority when it comes to creating events.
- Appalachian Heritage: Appalachian Heritage Council celebrates all things Appalachian and strives to showcase the often ignored groups that make up the rich tapestry of these mountains. The Council encourages students and community members alike to gather around the campfire for stories and the dance floor for live music & square dancing.
- Club Shows: The Club Shows Council focuses on spotlighting Boone's local music scene. Through our Live in Blue Ridge shows, Club Shows aims to bring safe, affordable, and inclusive local concerts to the student body while showcasing local bands and artists.
- Main Stage: Just as the name suggests, APPS' Main Stage Council focuses on bringing national touring acts to App State's "main stage." With events in the Schaefer Center and the Holmes Convocation Center, Main Stage strives to bring engaging and entertaining musical acts to a safe, supportive, and affordable environment for students - all in our backyard.
- R.I.S.E.: The Representation and Intentional Student Engagement (RISE) Council strives to promote and present educational programs. R.I.S.E.'s goal is to always create a more inclusive environment by creating and co-sponsoring programs that better represent the Appalachian community.
- Special Events: Special Events is one of the six councils of the Appalachian Popular Program Society (APPS). The council strives to arrange, plan, and implement a wide range of events that bring the student body together and build a sense of community on campus.
- Spirit and Traditions: The Spirits and Traditions Council aims to celebrate traditions for the university that are inclusive of all identities to better serve Appalachian State students. The Council is committed to collaborating with different organizations/councils across campus.
